FAMILY COURT LIAISON COMMITTEE REPORTS

June 25, 2021 & July 30, 2021

Attention Attorneys:

Sergeant Bendig: Sergeant David Bendig’s last day of service for the Greenville County Family Court was June 25, 2021. He has served our community for 34 years and will be greatly missed. The Greenville County Family Court welcomes Devin Hoover as the new Sergeant assigned to family court.

Written Submissions for Virtual Temporary Hearings: Be sure to include the proper language in support of the findings you include in your proposed orders and affidavits, especially in regard to jurisdiction, start dates for child support and also include the proposed hearing dates. Please refer to the Order of the Supreme Court, from April 3, 2020, as to the instructions for submitting temporary hearing packets for virtual hearings as needed. Lastly, please include financial declarations for pro se litigants.

New Post Office Box: The new family court post office box address will be PO Box 27107, Greenville, SC 29616.

New Family Court Building/Address: The new family courthouse address is 350 Halton Road, Greenville, SC, 29607, and the opening date is 8/23/2021. Hearings for this date, Monday, August 23, 2021, will be held at the new courthouse.

Docketing procedures: please be sure to include the correct case number, phone number, fax number and email on your hearing requests for all parties, GAL and/or pro-se parties. Also, please advise your staff that it is not appropriate to place the docket clerk’s on hold during the scheduling of hearings. Please attach mediation reports to your hearing requests and send your orders of protection to the docketing office. As always, please make an effort to always include the Guardians on these requests.

Trial Dates: All “A” case trial dates are full through the end of the year but there are still B and C case slots available at this time.

Interpreters: If you have requested an interpreter and your hearing is continued you must personally notify Val that the hearing has been continued and to please cancel the interpreter or you may still be responsible for the charges incurred.

Motion to Extend: The motion to extend the 365-day filing fee of $25 that was previously waived has now been reinstated. Please do not send in a hearing request to avoid the 365 administrative dismissal if you have not mediated and if you are not prepared to move forward to trial.

Court attire: Please remind clients to dress appropriate for court hearings – avoiding shorts and open toed shoes when possible.
